POLYSTYRENE IS A TRANSPARENT MATERIAL THAT CAN BE USED FOR WIDE RANGE OF APPLICATIONS
Monomer styrene is a liquid petrochemical that forms the synthetic aromatic polymer known as polystyrene and is an inexpensive resin which can be either foamed or rigid. The material has a low melting point and a poor barrier to water vapour and oxygen. Several billions of kilograms of polystyrene are produced annually and is one of the most widely used plastics.
Polystyrene is a transparent material that can be coloured. The material is glossy, durable, sturdy and easy to process and is a flexible material that can be used for a wide range of applications due its high resistance to impact. Better still is the fact that the product is visually attractive and hygienic. Due to it being strong and able to retain heat, it is widely used in the food packaging industry for making plastic cutlery, containers, and plastic bowls to name only a few.
Polystyrene is used for lining refrigerators, packaging, construction, and in the medical industry as trays. The product is cost effective and can be recycled, therefore minimising the effect on the environment and is lightweight, thus costing less to transport. In the long and short run of things, polystyrene ensures a lower cost to the consumer and increased profits to the retailer as it is easy to pack, store and transport.
